Although Gerard McLaren is originally from the UK, he has spent all of his professional teaching career outside his home country: in Germany, Poland and now Saudi Arabia. As a result, Gerard is multilingual, speaking four European languages fluently. This experience of living and working outside his home country means that he is perfectly placed to understand and identify with the issues our students face when studying and living abroad. Gerard has been here at KAUST since September 2019 and absolutely loves being part of our diverse, international community.

Gerard is passionate about working with our students, helping them communicate their groundbreaking scientific research more effectively in English. His areas of particular pedagogical interest are improving students' phonology, reading and public presentation skills. 

In his free time he loves traveling, photography and learning foreign languages.
